Although I only speak English, I was able to get a general idea of what you said from Babelfish and I wanted to thank you for the mention (I own/run phpBBHacks.com).

I understand what you are saying about security as phpBB has had it’s issues. But, when there are issues, they generally address them, which is a good thing. phpBB is so big that more people are trying to exploit it than any other community software, I would say. If other community softwares catch up in popularity, they may face increased scrutiny, as well.

But, there are certainly viable alternatives as you describe.
